On June 11, 1954 , a beautiful baby girl was born in Lovelady, Texas to Della Vern and Henry Nelms II. The oldest child born to this union, they named her Vernetta.
Vernetta attended school in Lovelady, Texas. At an early age, she accepted Christ and was a firm believer that God was a healer and a provider.
Vernetta had three beautiful daughters. For many years, she worked at Earl Sewing Factory and later, Houston Home Healthcare, from which retired in 2021.
On April 23, 2026, Vernetta left this earth on the wings of angels. She was preceded in death by her parents (Della Vern Nelms, Henry Nelms II, and Ben Newman); two brothers (Henry Nelms III, Earl Lester Nelms) and one sister (Jacquelyn Nelms).
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Uneka Boggess (Willie), Helen Simon and Franchestia Simon, all of Houston ,Texas; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; nine sisters: Sherry Johnson, Mattie Lane, Yolanda Phillips, Farrah Nelms, Sherika Nelms, Cecelia Newman Carr, Zenitta Newman, Felicia Newman Nokan and Sonya Dixon; four brothers: Charlie Ray Nelms, Darren Nelms, Ricky Nelms,Willie Newman, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives whose lives she touched along the way.
