SHIRLEY MYERS Obituary

Shirley West was born on October 13, 1956 in the Hopewell Community of Texas to the proud parentage of Jacob and Deloise Hailey West.  She was one of nine siblings raised with deep values of faith, family and hard work.

Shirley graduated from Oakwood High School in 1975.  Soon after, she pursued her passion in the field of cosmetology by attending the Houston Barber College.  There, she earned her barber’s license and became a well-respected and sought-after professional barber in the Houston area.  Throughout her career, Shirley had the honor of serving notable clients including NBA stars such as Karl Malone, Clyde Drexler, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and many others.

While living in Houston, Shirley met and married the love of her life; Hollie Myers.  Together, they shared many cherished memories.  She was a devoted step-mother to Sharmiyn Ford.

Later in life, Shirley returned to Centerville, Texas where she lovingly cared for her mother.  She reconnected with her spiritual roots by rejoining Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated choir member and    faithful servant.

On July 6, 2025, Shirley Myers entered into eternal rest.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings (James West, Minnie West, Alfred Lee West, Felicia West, Eric West, Uneeda West).

Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her sister, Paula Barton (Elnorris), and brother, Micheal West (Doris).  She was a cherished aunt to a host of nieces and nephews, including: Shawna Malone, Curtis Larry, Troy West (Danielle), Denodrick West, Elainah West, Eric J. West, Jr., Ashley Lawrence (Robert), Candace West, Cierra West, Alicia West, Tony Randle, Jr., and Jacoby Peterson, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

Shirley spent her retirement years surrounded by her loved ones, always offering her care, wisdom, and unwavering support. She will be deeply missed, but forever  remembered for her kindness, sharp wit, talent, and love.
