Robert Dickerson Obituary

Obituary

Robert Edward Dickerson, the third child of Mable Parker Dickerson and Dallas Dickerson, was born on August 8, 1931 in Wallis, Texas.  He found the love of Christ at an early age at Parker’s Chapel A.M.E. under the leadership of his grandfather, Rev. G.W. Parker.

Robert graduated from Austin County Senior High School in Sealy, Texas.  He gained employment on the railroad before enlisting in the United States Army.  Some of his first haircuts were given while in the Army.  After receiving an honorable discharge, he graduated from Huston-Tillotson College in 1958 with a Bachelor’s degree in Science.  Though he first pursued dentistry, he soon found his love for teaching and education.  Thereafter, he earned his Master’s degree in Science Education from Texas Southern University in 1973.  During his teaching career, Robert taught  sciences at Austin County Senior High, Fidelity Manor High School in Galena Park, Texas and North Shore Senior High School in Houston, Texas.  He was promoted throughout his career and retired from North Shore Senior High School as the Chemistry Department Head.

Robert wed Earnestine Bailey on January 18, 1958.  Shortly after, they settled in Galena Park where they became members of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church under the leadership of Rev. David O. Shipley.  Robert was a dutiful member of Pinecrest and faithfully served in education, the men’s ministry, as a Boy Scout troop leader, Sunday School teacher, chair of the Session, men’s choir member, and more.  In the community, he owned and managed the Pleasantville Barber Shop and established the Galena Manor community garden.  Socially, Robert will forever be remembered as a checkers champion, prize winning domino player, BBQ and chili master chef, fisherman, gardener and story-teller.

Robert departed this life on July 4, 2022.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings (Manuel Dickerson, Willie Edna Dickerson, John Dickerson, Sr. and Eldridge James Dickerson) and daughter-in-law (LeTecia).  Left to celebrate his life and legacy of hard work are his children, Siegfried Dickerson, Sr. (Sheryl), Cedric Dickerson (Brenda), Rene Dickerson Davis (Dr. Harold), and Robert Dickerson, Jr.; grandchildren, Siegfried “Eddie” Dickerson, Jr., Sean Dickerson (Alicia), Raven  Freeborn (Nicole) and Robert “Trey” Dickerson, III; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; siblings, Minnie Hatton and Nathaniel Dickerson; sister-in-law, Beatrice Williams; special loved ones, Jeffery Monmouth and Tracy Shaffer and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, students and customers.
