Obituary

THE STEPS OF A GOOD MAN

On April 28, 1945, in Washington, County, Georgia, Emory Cuby and Corine McMillian were blessed by the birth of their son, Walter Norris Cuby.

He attended Davisboro Academy,  Thomas Jefferson Elder High School and furthered his education at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.  He received his Bachelor’s  degree from Morehouse and later attended the Theologic Seminary in Houston, Texas.

Walter grew up in a loving, Christian home.  At an early age, he was baptized by his father at Neeler AME Church in Davisboro, Georgia.  After relocating to Houston, he became a member of Wesley AME Church.  When he received his calling from God, he became an assistant pastor.  While worshiping dutifully at Wesley, he served as the financial advisor to the church, Sunday School teacher and marriage consultant.  He was a man of God and was continuously in the process of sharpening his biblical studies.

After reaching the age of  majority, Walter enlisted in the United States Army.  After serving his country from 1968 to 1970, he received an honorable discharge.

While still living in Washington County, Georgia, Walter met Carolyn Hodges.  They were united in Holy Matrimony and were blessed with two daughters.  Eventually, they made their home in Houston, Texas.

Reverend Cuby was an intelligent, industrious and independent person.  He loved bowling, fishing and mathematics.  For many years, he worked for IBM and was an integral part of HBW (Helping Build Wealth) and very instrumental in the dynamics of the organization.  He was also a member of the 100 Black Men Organization.

On August 20, 2023, Reverend Cuby entered the realm of eternity.  He was  preceded in transition by his wife, daughter (Jocelyn Andrea Cuby), and three siblings (Christine Palmer, Emily Eberhardt Vincent, Willie L. Cuby).

Left to honor his life and cherish his memory are his devoted daughter and son-in-love, Sabrina Cuby-King (Isaiah, Jr.); his beloved grandsons, Gerrard Walter Cuby, Gemari Calford Cuby and Isaiah Louis King, III; sister, Annnie C. Anderson Beck of Philidelphia; brother, Lester V. Cuby (Carolyn) or Ormond Beach, Florida and a host of other relatives, friends and church family.
