Rev. Sammy Tryon Obituary

Sammy Robert Tryon was born on November 25, 1941 to Booker T. Tryon and Mary Kate Tryon, the fourth of six children.  As a young man, his brother dubbed him "Sam Bone".

Sammy attended Ralph Bunche High School in Texas. Later, he furthered his education in California and studied business management.

Sammy accepted Christ at an early age.  He was a spiritual man with great faith and a love for the Lord.  He joined New Corinthian Baptist Church in San Diego and was ordained April 17, 1988 by Reverend Lasalle Jones (his spiritual father), where he remained a devout member for 25 years.  Several years later, Sammy founded Rock of Faith Church where he served faithfully as the Senior Pastor.  He later became the senior pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Flynn, Texas.

Sammy relocated his family from San Diego, California on October 14, 1969.  He used his business management training and skills to manage Webber's Bakery. Thereafter, he was employed by Convair General Dynamics and Anderson Ragsdale Mortuary.  He loved every aspect of the funeral business where he was blessed to be one of the most professional and caring servant in the funeral industry.  He was proud to have served the community of Southern California, where he treasured great memories and historical events.

Sammy was passionate about bowling and playing the guitar. As a Hi-Hatteans Bowling team member, he won several bowling tournaments. He had a love for traveling by way of road trips. He was known for his peach cobbler and chicken and dumplings.  He was a die hard Dallas Cowboys and LA Chargers fan, cheering along with his (favorite) son, Tracy, and other family members that were Cowboys fans, also.

He was loved by many people including his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Sammy Robert Tryon entered into eternal rest on December 16, 2025.  He was pre-deceased by his wife (Norris Mary Tryon), parents, two brothers (Grady B. Tryon, Junior Lee Tryon), one sister (Dorothy Mae Beasley).

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Carolyn Tryon Lawrence and Glenda Edmond (Frank); son, Tracy Tryon (Clarissa); grandchildren: Sherrell, Marcus Edmond, Marquise Edmond, Marcell Tryon, Tra'Shean Tryon, Trevonte Lawrence, Tracy Tryon, Jr., Shantel Edmond, Shawn Steele, Brian Price, and Debrah Small; great-grandchildren, Anaya Willis, D'Mari Edmond, Marcus Edmond, Jr., D'Miya Edmond, Marquis Edmond, Jr., Aleia Wills, Arianna Tryon, Pierre Beasley, Marcell Tryon, Jr. Tynese Williams, Aubrie Edmond, Ja'anna Tryon, Madison Edmond, Shawn Steele, Jr. Da'Jon Steel, Kylia Steele, Tanto Edmond, Tovon Edmond and E'Lani Turner , and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
