A Beautiful Journey
Regina Kay Gipson was born on December 13, 1959, in Houston, Texas to the parentage of Earnest
Smith, Sr, and Jenna C Smith.
Regina attended school in the Houston Independent School District, graduating from Ross Sterling High
School. She continued her education at Houston Community College earning an Associate Degree in
Nursing. She worked many years within the medical field for MD Anderson Hospital and later worked for
Kinder Care Day Care. Once she left the medical field, she earned a Degree in Paralegal. One of her
greatest passions was education, she fought to ensure her sons attended schools with a high ranking
within the Fort Bend School District. She didn’t stop with just her sons, she served many years as a tutor
within the district, helping students reach their highest potential to attain a High School Diploma. She
also volunteered for 16 years as A Football Mom and Band Mom; respected and loved by teachers,
directors, and students alike.
On July 26, 1985, she married the love of her life, Alfred Waedell Gipson, Sr., to this union two children
were born, Alfred Waedell Gipson, Jr. and Tre’Vis Deon Gipson.
Regina accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of the Rev. B. R. Williams,
Pastor of Calvary Hill Baptist Church. Regina and her family later moved their membership in 1997 to The
Crossing Community Church (formerly St. Luke 1st Missionary Baptist Church) under the leadership of
Pastor, Harvey M. Walker where she served many years as a choir member and actively participated in
the Women Fellowship. Regina was an anointed and gifted singer; her talent was showcased on several
occasions while singing the National Anthem for the Houston Astros and the Houston Rockets. She made
many life-long friendships and shared a special bond with girlfriends, Angela Pope, and Sis. Estella “Pat”
Johnson; Spiritual Parents, Dec. Huey and Sis. Ollie Washington, Sr, and Sis. Ruthie Charles. She loved
her family; it was displayed with her many selfless sacrifices and her dedication to putting them first. Her
greatest joy was spending time with “her hero” Dell, her sons, and especially the grandchildren. She will
be dearly missed. During the latter part of her life, she persevered through life’s challenges and continued
to press on, despite the many difficulties she faced. She never gave up and refused to give in until her
Heavenly Father called her to her sweet home.
