September 22, 1946 ~ December 9, 2023 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Ronald was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on September 22, 1946 to Robert and Syble Hysten. After their sudden deaths, Ronald and his siblings, Brenda and Sylvia, were raised by their maternal aunt, Romaine, and her husband, Johnnie Wilson, who welcomed them into their home.

Ronald became a big brother to ten additional siblings over the years: Saundra, Helmut, Dagmar, Veolett, Jules, Wilmer, Carol Sue, Johnnie, Freddie and Tania.  Throughout his childhood, the family traveled with the military, internationally and stateside, and made the centerfold of Jet magazine, in 1955, as the largest military family to travel to Japan.

Ronald accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age and was baptized in his family church home, Pentecostal Church in Leavenworth, Kansas after returning to the states.

Ronald had a love for sports and played basketball, baseball, and wrestling in his early years.  He discovered that he was an extremely fast sprinter, so he joined the track team during his high school years and continued to run during his time at Pittsburgh State University.  He enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1973.  He continued to play recreational softball until he suffered a knee injury.  Afterward, he was satisfied being on the sideline rooting for his beloved KU Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals.

Ronald was employed early in his civilian career at Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas and ultimately retired from Ft. Leavenworth Department of Transportation.

Ronald married Johnetta Lee. To this union, three children were born: Tamela, Shawn and Ronald, Jr. They fondly recall, during their childhood, their father's love of laughter, his comedic wit, and desire to be a backup singer for the pop group, Hall & Oates.  He leaves them with his competitive spirit and the gift of gab.

Ronald is survived by his former spouse, Johnetta Lee; children, Tamela Dodson (Richard), Shawn Williams (Benjamin), and Ronald Hysten, Jr. (Komal); siblings, Helmut, Saundra, Sylvia, Dagmar, Veolett, Carol Sue, Freddie and Tania; grandchildren: Derrik, Codi, Michael, Skylar, and Karlyn; great-grandchildren, Hazel, Jamal, Jordan, Talmage, and Serenity Marie.
