RHONDA "Missy" KAY (CONNER) COLEMAN

Rhonda Kay Conner, known as “Missy” by family and friends, was born on November 16, 1966 in Houston, Texas to Richard and Mattie Findley Conner, the youngest of 12 children.

At an early age, Rhonda was guided and grounded in her faith as she was reared under the guidance of the late Pastor R.E. Daniels at Garden of Gethsemane Baptist Church. Later, she continued her spiritual journey at New Believers Word of Faith. She served faithfully under the leadership of the late pastor, Rev. A.L. Scales and remained a dedicated member under the current pastor, Rev. Jason L. Scales.

Growing up surrounded by a large and loving family, Rhonda was a true Houstonian. She attended Cullen Middle School and graduated from Jack Yates High School. 

She began her professional career at the University of  Houston where she met the love of her life, Benjamin Coleman, and the two shared 24 wonderful years of marriage.  She also dedicated many years of service to Rice University before health challenges forced her to retire. 

On April 8, 2026, Rhonda Kay “Missy” Coleman entered into eternal rest.  She was preceded in death by her mother, 2 brothers (Richard, Jr., Eddie Conner) and 1 sister (Betty Conner).

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Benjamin Coleman; father, Richard Conner; 5 sisters: Ruthie, Ethel, Lola, Diane, Delores; 3 brothers: Johnny, Robert, Freddie; god-children: Joshua, Noah, Serge, Messiah, Darrion, Arrienna, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Rhonda was known for her loving spirit, strength, and the comfort she brought to everyone around her. She had a warm heart and a strong presence; always ready to support those she loved. Though she was loving at heart, she didn’t hold back her tongue if something needed to be said. We all knew Missy was   going to say it. That was what made her so real and so deeply loved.
