Her Story
Today, we celebrate the life of Ola Faye Taylor, also known as “Ms. Faye”.
Faye was born on January 8, 1930 in Lovelady, Texas to Wert and Mary Stella York. She accepted Christ at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Lovelady, Texas. As a youth, she attended Center Grove High School in Lovelady and later received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Mary Allen College in Crockett, Texas.
On December 8, 1951, Faye united in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, Will O. Taylor. To this union, four children were born; Kenny, Donny, Linda and Barry.
Faye and W.O. relocated to Houston, Texas and joined Gospel Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Thomas Calhoun, Sr. She continued her faith walk under the late Rev. Robert Hobly and the current pastor, Rev. Floyd W. Young.
Faye was a home day-care operator. She loved children. For many years, she displayed her love by working with the neighborhood day-care center. She was a mother to many and affectionately adopted many of the neighborhood children. She always had an encouraging word for anyone that met her.
