The Life, Love and Legacy
Of
Mary Joyce Howard
On May 17, 1949, on a beautiful day, blessed by God, a daughter was born to
Morris and Reba Roberts, in Crockett, Texas.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a member of Friendship Baptist
Church under the pastoral guidance of Pastor T.W. Berry. Later, she joined Bethel
Baptist Church under the auspices of Pastor Delvin Atchison, I. She was an active
member of Simpson Chapel Baptist Church under the divine leadership of Pastor
Lionel Whitaker. Affectionately known as “MeMe”, Joyce was an active choir
member who loved giving God the praise. She truly loved her amazing church
family.
Joyce was formally educated in the Crockett area schools, later attending Texas
College. She was a woman of God who was loved and highly respected in the
College Hill community. She enjoyed cheering on the Crockett Bulldogs and the
Coldspring Trojans. The kids loved her and she loved them. She had a devoted
background in criminal justice and education. She had a combined 40+ years with
the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Texas Youth Commission and Crockett
ISD. Anyone who knew her knew she was an avid coffee drinker who loved her
