Mary Ella Thomas was born on December 23, 1969 in Winshire, Texas to the parentage of Carlton and Evelyn Guillory Thomas.
Mary’s childhood was rooted and grounded. She grew up on the heels of several aunts and uncles. As she followed them around, they became more like her big sisters and brothers. She loved her baby brother, Billy Ray, but just like all siblings, he would get on her nerves. That’s when Mary would have to show them who was the boss.
Mary accepted Jesus as her savior early in life and she became a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Stowell, Texas. She always maintained her faith and became a member of Lively Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Fulshear, Texas where she served as the president of the District Mission.
She graduated from East Chambers High School in 1978. As a gifted athlete, she excelled in track and basketball and was a force to be reckoned with. Stories are still being told, to this day, of her ferocity on the court. She was also a member of the East Chambers Drill Team and performed at half-time during football games.
In her adult life, Mary held multiple management positions. She also honed her craft in interior design and had an eye for fashion that was impeccable. She later opened her own interior design business which proved to be very successful.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her smile would light up any room she walked it. It was a light she carried within. She was always the life of the party and you could count on her to keep you laughing and smiling the entire time. She possessed a genuine heart and was always willing to help in any way she could. She could be counted on to show up and lend her support and be a positive influence to all. Her grandchildren were her heart and her world. If ever they needed her, she was only a phone call away and never failed.
On February 21, 2026, Mary Ella Hale peacefully transitioned with her loving husband by her side, surrounded by family. She was preceded in transition by her step-father (Joseph George, Jr.) and god-daughter (Monica Thomas).
