Mary Lee Johnson was born on February 9, 1933 in Powhatan, Louisiana to Rafe, Sr. and Louise Johnson. She later moved to Houston, Texas where she married Willie Felder.
As a Houston resident, she started studying the bible with the Jehovah’s Witness family and in 1965, she was baptized. This began her long career of of sharing her faith with others. It’s been said that she never met a stranger. As you know, she enjoyed talking to people and spending time with family, grandchildren and friends, cooking her pinto beans and cornbread, which was enjoyed with her favorite drink, root beer soda, and let’s not forget her Juicy Fruit gum.
Those that went before her are her husband, grandson (Diantr’e) and parents. Left to cherish Mom’s memory are her children: Joe Lee (Debra), Rachel, Sherman (Brenda), Phillip Wayne, Sr., Ruby (Don), Rita, Raymond, Sr., Willie Earl and Ella; sister, Marybell Parker; grandchildren: Darrell, Nakia, Sujuan, Joe Lee, Jr., Sherley, Paula, Phillip, Jr., Chantel, Lisa, Lyndsey, Raymond, Jr., Kiera, Montoya, Terance, Travis, Chris, Jeremy, Catherine, Franchelle, Antoine, Quentin, William, Elizabeth, Wiltion, Willingtin, Willie, Cedric, Sam two adopted grandchildren, Sele and Josh, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mom always had a soft spot in her heart for Van and Phylliss Nelson, as she called him her extra son, and always looked forward to seeing Ms. Naomi Kendrick when she traveled to Oklahoma talking about old times and cooking memories.
