Lucinda Wheeler Obituary

Lucinda was born on September 2, 1931 in Crockett, Texas to the parentage of Wilbert and Bertha Halley-Andrews. The  fourth  and  last child of  this parenthood,  Lucinda was reared  in Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, where she was strongly rooted in the Lord.

Lucinda was raised in an era of segregation, therefore she attended William High School, a school for black students which served all grades from elementary through high school, at the same location, potentially in the same building or campus. By the time she graduated high school, her  diploma read Crockett High School. Although Williams High was the name, it was still under the administration of the Crockett school district. This reflects the administrative structure of a time when separate facilities were the law. Shortly after her graduation at the age of 17, she lost her mother in a terrible car accident. At the age of 20, Lucinda moved to Seattle, Washington to live with relatives. There, she attended cosmetology school and began her career as a Beautician while working part-time at a laundry mat. By the age of 21, she met and married her first husband, George Connor and took on the responsibility of raising his 3 small children as her own, the oldest being 7.

After the transfer of her military husband from Seattle, Washington to San Francisco, California, Lucinda devoted her life as a mother to Arlyce Connor, Curtis Connor and Georgean Connor and was also instrumental in  raising their children. She loved them with all her heart, as though they were her own, sewing clothes and making outfits because she was a seamstress. To them, she was momma (Cindy Mae), the only mother they knew and loved. Later, she met and married Arthur Lee Green and took on the responsibility of raising his 3-year-old daughter, Sandra Green-Hughes. Together, they continued to raise children. Lucinda joined Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rev. W. Drummer. There, she served as an usher and diligently served in the mission. She always prayed to God and asked Him to bless her with a child of her own. She just wanted to experience the blessing of giving birth. After 7 years of marriage to Arthur, God finally  blessed her with a beautiful bundle of joy, a child of her own; Tamiko Green. After 3 more years, this marriage fell apart. Lucinda moved back to Texas, but to Houston where she brought Arlyce’s only child, Steve, and Tamiko. She continued to raise them together. She and the children joined Christian Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Leroy Joseph, where she served on the mission. She worked in the funeral business at Woodley Wheeler Funeral Home, with the childhood love of her life, Lincoln R. Wheeler. (1972-1983). Later, God led her to join Ship of Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Woodson, and later, Pastor Roland E. Mouton, Sr.

There, she served as the president of the usher board and  president of the mission. It was there that Pastor R. E. Mouton, Sr. came to her and relayed a message from God that she was a Sunday School teacher. From that day forward, being obedient to God, she began teaching Sunday School. She taught the children, young adults and adults and became a great speaker for God. She would speak on special occasions such as mission workshops. After being there for many years, she followed her daughter and joined Paradise Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Johnny Kelly. There, she served as a Sunday school teacher and in the mission. In her latter years, she and the love of her life, Lincoln R. Wheeler, finally joined hands in marriage. After 9 years at Paradise, she followed the voice of God and joined the East Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of The Rev. Dr. Ronald K. Mouton, Sr., where she served as a Sunday school teacher to the women’s class, in the women’s ministry, a member of the pastor’s aide committee, and member of the trustee board. Lucinda always loved serving God, sewing, fishing, traveling and most of all, her family and extended families. She worked in the church faithfully all of her life. Although her health began to decline, she still attended church as often as she could. In the midst of her transition, family would often sit with her and play gospel music. She still was able to witness, wave her hands and say Amen! She said God was with her. Lucinda “Cindy Mae” Green-Wheeler took her last breath while napping on November 26, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband (Lincoln R. Wheeler), two daughters (Arlyce C. Connor and Georgean Connor), two sisters (Cora Andrews Baker and Thelma L. Andrews Warren), and one brother (Will H. Andrews).

Her love and life will forever be cherished by her baby girl/daughter, Tamiko Green; her grandchildren: Tyran Andrew Harris, who was her heart,  Steve Arthur Coleman, Leroy D. Wilson; great and great-great grandchildren; godchildren: Rachael E. Kelly-Hamilton, Andre Kelly, Jr. and a host of nieces nephews, and everyone that called her “Momma Green”.
