Lon Biggers Obituary

Thursday morning, October 20, 1949, at 5:00 a.m., Andrew and Johnnie Biggers welcomed their fourth child, Lon L. Biggers, into the world.  Lon accepted Christ at nine years old and was baptized at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in the Bland Lake Community.  He attended     Needville Elementary and Junior High School before attending C.H. Daniels High School and graduating in 1958.  As a student, he excelled in FFA and Track and Field.

After Lon graduated from High School, he left home to figure out what life had in store for him.  His early adulthood journey began in Dallas until he decided to go back home and work for E.L. Bruce Plywood.  His time at E.L. Bruce was short term as he decided to give      Houston a try in the early 70’s.  During this period, he met pursued Mae Pearl Price and her children.  Lon knew this was the life he was meant to live.  Lon and Mae were united in holy matrimony on July 28th, 1972. This union was blessed with a baby girl in the Spring of 1974.

Lon worked various jobs to provide for his family.  Throughout his work life, he labored at Nelson Furniture, Harold Farbs, Frito Lay and The Horne Company.  It was in the early 1980’s that he settled on a career as a Maintenance Engineer at The Horne Company, located in Houston’s downtown area.  After 27 years and several company acquisitions, Lon’s health caused him to retire early in the winter of 2009.  He transitioned into retirement and was able to enjoy hobbies such as fishing, hunting, gardening and checking in on loved ones full time.  For many years, he was an active member of the Alabama Gardens in the Third Ward       community.

In 2013, Lon joined New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of his nephew, Pastor Christopher Moore.  He remained a faithful member  until his demise.

On the morning of July 12, 2023, the Lord peacefully welcomed Lon home into His glorious  kingdom.  Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents (Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Biggers), siblings (Larry Biggers and Dorothy Moore), and his devoted wife of 48 years (Mae P.     Biggers).

Left to continue his legacy are his four children: Kenneth Price (Linda), Stanley Price,        Vermona Price and Tarsha Boykin (Ira); ten grandchildren: Kanisha Pryor Roberson,    LaKeisha Cain, Davion Fontenot, Kenneth Price, II, Reginald Mask, II, Regine Thomas,    Tamia Boykin, Jamal Boykin, Michael Price, Alexis Price; six great-grandchildren; three   siblings: Willie F. Garrett, Alton Biggers and Leroy Biggers (Gwen); one aunt, Lee Anna Matlock Goree; five sisters-in-law, Clementine McCullough (Edward), Willie Ammons (John), Mary J. Collins, Georgia Mills (Charles) and Barbara McKnight; two godsons, Tony Love, II., Christopher Morrison and a host of devoted and dedicated nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
