Linda Tellison Obituary

A Life Well Lived

Linda Gayle Tellison

February 10, 1947 – January 04, 2023

Linda Gayle Tellison was born on February 10, 1947 in Bay City, Texas to Tilton and Daisy Tellison. Linda grew up in Bay City, Texas and was the youngest of three children.  She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Enterprise Baptist Church.

As an honor roll scholar, Linda graduated from Hilliard High School in 1965 and Prairie View A & M University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She started her nursing career at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City, Texas and later moved to Houston, Texas where she worked with the Harris County Hospital District, which is now Harris Health System, from 1969 to 2013 and retired as the Performance Impovement Quality Management Coordinator. In 1971, Linda was blessed with a beautiful baby girl; Stacey Denise Tellison.

Shortly after moving to Houston, Linda united with Christian Hope Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member. She was active with the Sister 2 Sister Ministry and had a very strong relationship in God.

Linda became a member of the Zeta Chi Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated in 1974.  This began a life-long passion of service to the sorority. She mentored and encouraged many members to become leaders. She held many leadership roles on the local, regional, and national levels. On the  local level, Linda served as President, Vice President, Beta Sponsor, and  Bylaws Committee Chair. On the regional level, she served as Regional Director, Bylaws Committee Chair, Souvenir Journal Chair, and Regional Handbook Committee Chair. On the national level, she was the National Dean of    Sponsors, National Dean of Pledgees/Membership, National Organizer, National Scholarship Chair, National Bylaws Committee Chair, and National Operations Manual Committee Chair.

Linda’s commitment to the sorority was demonstrated by her development of the first Middlesouth regional handbook, co-edited by Mary Garnett. She was recognized for her commitment by receiving the Regional Member of the Year Award in 2019. The Regional Most New Members Award was renamed The Linda G.Tellison Most New Members Award. On the national level, she was recognized for organizing 23 chapters in Chi Eta Phi Sorority; the most chapters organized by one National Organizer.

Linda’s greatest joys were shopping and enjoying culinary experiences with her daughter, attending birthday lunches with her two best friends, Derotha Stephens and Patricia Batteaux, lunch outings with cousins, traveling with the sorority, playing computer games, watching Survivor, Big Brother, Young and The Restless, and Bold and the Beautiful.

Following a brief illness, Linda entered into eternal rest on January 04, 2023. Preceding her in death are her parents; brother, Leonard Arthur Tellison, and her grand-doggy, Ginger Tellison. Left to honor her life and cherish her memories are her daughter, Stacey Tellison; brother, Tilton, “Bake” Tellison, Jr.; niece, Andrea; nephew, Chris (Sheryl); aunt, Mildred Milton; Godson, John Douglas, special friends, Derotha Stephens and Patricia Batteaux, and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, Chi Eta Phi Sorors, and friends.
