Leva Liggins Jr.

Leva “Levi” Liggins, Jr. was born on February 23, 1949 in Monroe, Louisiana to Leva Liggins, Sr. and Helen O’Neal Liggins, the second of eight siblings.

The Liggins family moved to Houston in the early sixties where Levi attended Jack Yates High School. He later moved to Oakland, California where he attended Alameda College and worked for the Oakland school district for several years. After returning to Houston, he worked with special needs children in the Aldine School District.

Levi accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized at a very early age. Later, his service to the Lord led him to become a member of the Churches of Christ. He was   baptized at Laura Koppe Church of Christ in 1979. Later, he joined Fifth Ward Church of Christ in 1993 and remained a faithful servant of the Lord.

Bro. Levi was a devoted church leader who regularly  traveled to Louisiana and California to minister the word. He will truly be missed by his faithful church family, especially Bro. Baisey, his good friend.

Bro. Leva “Levi” Liggins, Jr. was called home to be with the Lord on January 18, 2023 at the age of 73. He was surrounded by family, which is where he felt most comfortable and loved. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and Uncle Jack.

Left to honor his life and cherish his memories are his brothers and sisters: Delores “Diane” Liggins-Tilford, Ulysess Liggins (Cheryl), Belinda Johnson (Curtis), Larry “Hal” Liggins, Angela Liggins, Michael Liggins, and Edith Johnson; one aunt; Irene Liggins, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will truly miss “Vi”.
