LYWANDA THOMAS

LyWanda Gayle Burns was born on September 30, 1967 in Jonesboro, Louisiana to the parentage of Clyde Burns, Jr. and Bertha Gipson Burns.  

LyWanda grew up in the the Trinity Gardens community of Houston, Texas.  She worked at Harlon's Barbecue, Two Dimensions and MV Transit where she fostered numerous friendships.

She met and married Derrick D. Thomas.  This union was blessed with two children.

On August 28, 2025, LyWanda entered into eternal rest.  She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents (Mary Lou Gipson, James D. Gipson, Clyde Burns, Sr., and Ella Mae Harris), nephew (Zakaree S. Burns), and best friend (Felicia Ann Wallace).

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Derrick Thomas; children: Derrick Thomas and Denver Thomas; bonus son, Jared Anderson; grandchildren: Bakari Hasan, Braylon Hasan; siblings: Donnie Burns, Brenda Lathan (Nate), Shirlon Richardson, Felicia Burns, Bridgette Jones (Robert) and Brett Burns; favorite cousins: Rebecca Leon (Charles) and Stephanie Burns; best friends: Sonia Parker (Michael) and Melissa Guillory (Marc); godson, Eric Hayes (Michell); goddaughter, Karnita Wallace (Tyrrone) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
