Entrusted to the care of Deacon Lewis McKie and Mamie Lou McKie Briggs on October 1, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, was a baby girl that they named Juliet.
Known later by family and friends as “Judy”, she attended school in Augusta, Georgia, namely Weed Elementary School, A.R. Johnson Junior High and Lucy C. Laney High School, graduating in 1965.
At an early age, Judy was baptized at Cumming Grove Baptist Church in Augusta. As a resident of Houston, Texas, she united with New Faith Church under the pastoral guidance of Pastor T.R. Williams and remained a faithful member of the current pastor, Andre J. Lewis, D. Min.
Judy enjoyed reading, traveling, soft ball, playing cards, trying new restaurants, shopping, and entertaining family and friends. She performed clerical work for the United States Military at Ft. Gordon, the United States Customs, and the United States Postal Service from which she retired after 37 years.
On June 29, 2024, Juliet “Judy” Briggs Gainous entered into the realm of eternity. She was preceded in transition by her parents, brother (Greggory Briggs), and a special cousin (Barbara Cohen).
Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her husband, Joe Louis Gainous; children, Henre “Darryl” Carpenter (Felicia), William “Toine” Carpenter (Kathy), Urica Flowers (Prince); grandchildren; Bianca Carr (Canton), LaDarryl Carpenter, Jarron Bullock, Steven Davis, Gabriel Carpenter, Kameron Carpenter, Michael “Myles” Flowers; great-grandchild, Ethan Carpenter; brother, Jamez Moss; nephew, Malik Briggs; sisters-in-law, Jessie M. Barkley-Shepherd (Herman) and Gloria M. Davis; special friend, Brenda Hankinson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
