Jonathan Paul Barkley was born on May 24, 1961 in New Orleans, Louisiana. His parents, William and Rosetta Barkley, made their home in Houston where he attended Blackshear and Rhoads Elementary schools, Albert Thomas Middle School, and graduated from Ross Sterling High School.
Known as “Johnny” by family and friends, he enlisted in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge.
Johnny kept a job, for the most part. He enjoyed cars, people and talking which led him to work at Auto Zone where he became a manager. He also took great pride in working with his cousins at Gulf Coast Trade Center, Barkley Mortuary and Barkley Memorial, where he proclaimed to be the boss. He was a die-hard fan of the Raiders and made no secret of it.
On April 8, 2024, Jonathan Paul Barkley entered the realm of eternity. Those that went before him and await his arrival on the other side are his father (William Barkley), two sisters (Cynthia Linton, Beverly Barkley), two brothers (William Barkley, Jr., James Edward Barkley), three uncles (Deacon Jacob E. Barkley, Willie Lawrence, Horace Homes, Jr.) and two aunts (Geraldine Campbell, Sarah Holmes).
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Elyse Robinson; grandson, Chase Carmon; mother, Rosetta Barkley; siblings, Veronica Perrino, Cheryl McBeth, Rev. Dr. Gregory Williams, James Johnson, Curtis Fluellen; nieces, Monique Barefield (Byron), Tanisha Barkley, Trenice Williams; nephew, Lorell Linton; aunts, Jessie M. Barkley-Shepherd, Gloria M. Davis; uncle, James F. Barkley (Barbara), Joe L. Gainous (Judy); favorite cousins in the whole world, Gerald Barkley, Jarred Barkley (Chelsi) and Minister Mollie Neal, and a host of other relatives and friends who will truly miss his wit, humor, sarcasm and love.
