Joe L. Gilford was born in Crockett, Texas on December 7, 1955 to James Franklin Gilford and Jessie Marie Gilford, the fourth of five sons.
He received his education in the public school system of Houston County in Crockett, Texas and graduated in 1974 from Crockett High School.
In 1975, he met and married Rose Mary Johnson. Joe and Rose later moved to Houston where they resided for more than 20 years.
Joe was in the custom audio industry. He later earned a certification as a licensed electrician and worked in that profession for many years.
In 2000, Joe met and married Sandra K. Shanks. They resided in Dallas, Jacksonville and Crockett, where they settled until his untimely departure on July 24, 2022.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (John L. Gilford, James L. Gilford) and sister (Jessie Mae Gilford Thomas).
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Tarsha Carpenter (Eli), Shantell Ruiz (Jessie), Joseph, Valencia, LaKeidra, Ashala Carson (Maurice), Jared, Jaylon, Tracey and Keke; grandchildren, Aaron, Ashlyn, Kristian, Jacob, Zoe, Kinley, Ashton, Rodney, Maya, Brittany, Brooke and Briana; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Amir, Corey, Khazii and Trey; three brothers, Charles (Adriane), Chester and Marvin Gilford, (Carrie) of Houston and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
