Remembering James
James Henry Porter was born on March 25, 1951 in Crockett, Texas to the parentage of James Earl Porter and Evelyn McHenry Porter. He attended Crockett Elementary and Middle School and completed his studies at Ralph Bunche High School.
At an early age, James received Christ and was baptized under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Betty Shepherd. He enjoyed music, dancing and reading. For many years, he was involved with the local activity centers and group committees. He worked at Vulcraft and the Lufkin Candy Factory.
On October 18, 2022, James entered eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother (Celestine Porter), adoptive parents (Jack and Hattie Truss), sister (Evelyn Truss), daughter (LaWanda Porter Baker) and grandson (Joseph Lee Allen, Jr.).
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Louise Robinson Porter; children, Michelle Porter, James Henry Porter, Jr., Michael Ray Porter (Celina Fisher), Lasonya Porter, NaShonda Rachel (Byron Elam) and Pamela Porter Johnson (Otis); Sheambria Lopez, Shaquan Thompson, Christopher Porter, Michael Ray Porter, Jr., Tanquinck Porter, DeMichael Porter, Erica Frances, Alexis Baker, Terrance Porter, Patrick White, Xavier Leonard; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Anthony Truss; sister, Yolanda Porter; uncles, Jimmy Robinson and Wesley Robinson; aunts, Ghetti Williams and Louise Robinson; 4 nieces; 1 nephew and a host of other relatives and friends.
