JANE MCKNIGHT Obituary

Jane Evelyn Burns, known by family and friends as “nee’ Burns”, was born on July 27, 1955 in Crockett, Texas to the parentage of David Burns and Eva Colter, the third child of six.

After losing her mother, at an early age, Jane grew up in the Beria Community where she attended school in the Crockett Independent School District.  Jane had a strong passion for the art of cooking.  She was buffet cook for many years.

In 2001, Jane moved to Houston, Texas in order to get a fresh start in life.  In 2005, after suffering a stroke, she was not able to walk or talk.  She sent up a petition to God telling Him that if He allowed her to walk and talk again, she would serve Him for the rest of her life.

In 2007, she rededicated her life and was re-baptized under the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, and became a faithful servant of Second Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor L.K. Willliams, in the Third Ward community.  Jane was a devoted member of her church.  She served as the church custodian, was a member of the Love Club (Pastor’s Aide), Senior Women            Missionary ministry and head nurse on the Usher board, until her health began to fail.

The joy of the Lord was her strength.  She was nicknamed “Shouting Jane” and “Tambourine Tammy” amongst her church family.  She was not ashame to show or tell people how good God had been to her.  She never met a stranger and was always the life of the party.  She showed agape love to all who crossed her path.

On February 8, 2024, God saw that His faithful servant was tired, so, Jane  Evelyn “nee’ Burns” McKnight, answered His call with strength, dignity and grace.  She peacefully entered eternal rest with her loved ones by her side.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband (Delbert “Poncho” McKnight), the    father of her children, son (Marvin Burns) and brother (Jerry Johnson).

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Rachelle Burns of Crockett, Texas; LaMeca Davis (Reggie) of Guy, Texas, Derek McKnight of Crockett, Texas and a special daughter, Laura Ellis of Crockett, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, James Colter (Janice) of Lufkin, Texas and David Burns of    Crockett, Texas; two sisters, Linda Wiley of Crockett, Texas and Carolyn James of Phoenix, Arizona; the Creag family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

At the request of the family and in honor of Jane Evelyn McKnight wishes, there will be no public viewing/service. We ask that everyone please respect the family wishes as well as their privacy.
