Ida Mae Potts, the youngest of 7 beautiful children, was born on May 14, 1945 in Grapeland, Texas to the parentage of Jessie and Phebie Potts.
She attended W.R. Banks High School and graduated in 1964, with perfect attendance. As a student, Ida was on the cheerleading squad, basketball team, track and field teams, choir and was the homecoming queen. She furthered her education by attending Texas Southern University and Espanola Beauty College
A woman of deep personal faith and Christian values, Ida was a dedicated member of St. john in Houston, Texas for over 10 years. She later united with The Luke Church under the pastoral leadership of Dr. Timothy Sloan. Even while dealing with health issues, she served the Lord and remained a faithful member from home.
Ida was a well respected employee of St. Joseph Hospital where she was an LVN. She also worked with the Boy Scouts of America and HISD as a motor pool supervisor, for over 27 years. After retiring from HISD, she went on to shine her light at Walmart as a lead cashier for 14 years and nine months, before retiring in 2021.
Ida entered the realm of eternity on August 15, 2023, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in transition by her parents, sister (Ellen Beason), brothers (Albert Lee Potts, Herbert W. Potts, Robert H. Potts and Jessie Lee Potts).
Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her beloved son, Gregory Willis (Chandra) of Humble, Texas; daughter, Angela Perkins (Abe) of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Shamieka Lee (Kendrick); grandsons, Degarrian Evans (Cierra), Gregory D. Willis, Geordan Willis, Terrence Williams (Keshia) and Edward Iglehart; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Katie B. Potts, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ida was a jack of all trades and left an exemplary academic and educational legacy, but more importantly, she left an outstanding legacy of Christianity.
