Hazel Cobbs

July 31, 1934 ~ July 3, 2022 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Obituary

Hazel Hicks was born July 31, 1934 in Grapeland, Texas to the proud parentage of Frank and Erma Marshall Hicks. She received her education at W.R. Banks High School in Grapeland and furthered her studies by attending Prairie View A&M University.

Hazel was a faithful member of the Loyal Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. T.R. Williams, Sr.  In February 1977, she shared in the vision of a new spiritual experience and was one of the 52 organizing members of the New Faith Church where she served faithfully. Her gift was serving others. She was active in Mission, Bible Study, Mission Chorus and the Old Deacons’ wives. She wholeheartedly loved the Lord and the New Faith Family and attended every Sunday until her health failed.

Hazel married Maxie Cobbs on August 25, 1960.  To this union, one son, Melvin Cobbs, was born. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and faithful worshipper. Hazel was a people person. The Cobbs’ home was always a welcome place for family and friends  to gather, laugh and eat.

On July 3, 2022, Sister Cobbs was called from labor to reward.  She was preceded in transition by her parents and five siblings (Robert Hicks, Ruth   Gilmore, Homazel Leonard, Charles Hicks and Ellis Hicks).

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Maxie Cobbs; son, Melvin Cobbs; niece, daughter and nurturer, Frances Burrell; nephew/son in love, Rufus Allen Jr. (Linda); sister-in-law, Nancy “Sudie” Jackson (Phillip); brother-in-law, Marcello Cobbs (Jessie Mae); dear friends, Carolyn Derrico Williams, Beverly Vann, Fannin Madry and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

The memories of Sister Hazel Hicks Cobbs will always be dear to our hearts.
