Remembering Gwen
Gwendolyn Jean was born on March 1, 1952 in Harrison, Texas, McLennan County, to the parentage of James Atkins and Ruth Regin Harris.
She attended Southland Elementary, Ryan Middle School and Yates High School.
Gwen joined Christian Hope Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the Usher board under the leadership of the late pastor, Rev. Herbert Stroman.
As a gate keeper in God’s house, she always had a smile and helpful spirit. Gwen was a loving, laughing and lively lady with a heart of gold. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hanging out with her friends was one of the fun ways she would pass time.
For many years, Gwen worked at the University of Houston, Sweetie’s Home Health Care, McDonald’s and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. She never met a stranger and had an expeditious way of talk-ing that kept you enthralled.
On December 16, 2023, Gwendolyn entered the realm of eternal peace. She was preceded in transition by her parents. Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her children, Brend M. Jenkins-Thompson, Larry Joe Jenkins (Valerie), and LaCrecha Marilyn Madden; grand-children, Shannon N. Jenkins, LaQuinta Jenkins, Annesia Thompson, Rouchelle Smith, Jr., Tainee McQuarter, Shakira Madden, Davon Alix, Christian Madden, Alaric Jenkins, Khori Jenkins; brother, Jerry Atkins; nephew, Reginald Earl Alix and a host of other relatives and friends
