Heaven and earth rejoiced on June 12,1948, when a beautiful baby girl was born to Rufus and Jeanette Allen, in Galveston, Texas, whom they named Frances Marie Allen.
Frances accepted Christ at an early age at Union Prairie Baptist Church, in Crockett, Texas, under the leadership of Reverend Simpkins. She attended Williams High School in Crockett, Texas. After graduating, she moved to Houston and secured gainful employment at Foley’s Warehouse. She swiftly moved up the ranks and became a supervisor, a role she held until retirement. Her knack for people, fashion, and shopping led her back to the workforce as a Dressing Room Attendant at Target.
Frances married Mack Warren. To this union, two children were born. On June 16, 1980, Frances was united in Holy Matrimony with Johnny Lee Burrell, Sr. She was a soft-spoken, humble, mild-mannered, God-fearing woman who loved God, her Creator. She was the matriarch of the family.
Sis. Frances was a faithful member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She was an active member of Mission III, under the leadership of Crawford W. Kimble, Pastor Emeritus. She served with the Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) and the Usher Board of Good Hope. She wholeheartedly loved her church family and enjoyed serving in any capacity. Another of her hobbies was bowling; she was a skilled member of the “Holy Rollers” Bowling Group for many years.
Sis. Frances dedicated her life to caring for others, in thought, word, and deed. Over the years, she cared for her aunts (Hazel and Nancy), uncle (Maxie), her mother-in-law (Christine), her father, and most recently, her cousin (Melvin). Not only did she assist with their daily care, but she also made delicious feel-good meals for them. From the bedside to the kitchen, Frances’ hands were truly touched by God. She was an earnest, fervent, steadfast believer in the Word of God and she shared it with anyone she encountered. Frances was the epitome of love and the spirit of the Lord resonated through her, allowing her to touch, impact, and inspire her family, friends, church community, and even strangers.
On Friday, August 2, 2024, Frances entered into eternal rest. Those that went before her and await her arrival on the other side are her husband, parents, grandparents (George and Ollie B. Cobbs) and brother-in-law (Aaron Britton).
Left to honor and cherish her memory are her loving children: Elder Darwin Warren Allen, Sr. (Pastor Pamela), Dr. Sonji Warren Jack (Herman), grandsons: Nickalos (Danisha), Jairus, Travis, Darwin Jr., great-grandson: Mosiah, and great-granddaughter: Nova Marie, siblings: Rufus Allen, Jr. (Linda), Ruthie Haggar (Leo), Mary Britton, Charlotte Ware, and cousin/son Melvin Cobbs.
Frances has a host of other loving relatives and friends, including her cousin, Clifford Jackson, uncle, Phillip Jackson, and special “Friend Girl”, prayer warrior, traveling buddy, and sister in Christ, Bunner Wright; they were inseparable. Sis. Frances also appreciated the tireless support she received, while caring for her family and even going through her illness, from her son-in-law, Herman Jack.
Sis. Frances Marie Burrell was much beloved by all those she touched and served and will be greatly missed.
