Ethel Sherman Obituary

Ethel Taylor was born on May 17, 1935 in the Ash Community of Austonio, Texas to the parentage of Cleocy and Callie Baker Taylor.  She attended Mt. Zion Ash Elementary School and Williams High School.

Known by family and friends as “Mutt”, Ethel accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Zion Ash Baptist Church.  Her family relocated to Crockett, Texas and in 1979, she joined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she   remained a faithful member until her passing.

On May 29, 1955, Ethel married Otis C. Sherman. Throughout their 69 years of marriage, they were blessed with 11 children. One of her greatest joys was cooking big meals for everyone. Her favorites were dressing and sweet potato pie.

Mutt enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.  She loved to sing and listen to gospel music. With a heart of gold, she never met a stranger.

On August 17, 2024, Ethel “Mutt” Sherman entered into eternal rest.  She was preceded in transition by her husband, three children (Lena Sherman, Terry Joe Sherman, Sr., Ricky Sherman); grandson (Keldrick Harris); parents; 3 brothers (Leo “Buddy” Taylor, Joe Edward Taylor, Sr., Roy Taylor);  2 sisters (Fannie  Mae Johnson and Dorothy Jones).

Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her children:   Vanessa Sherman, Ravon Sherman (Martha), Cleotis Sherman, Dina Sherman, Scotty Sherman (Tunia), Debra  Harris  (Alvie),  Fredrick  Sherman (Karona), Rodney  Sherman (Anisha); 36 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Daisy Lou Moffett, Ruth Hackett; daughters-in-love: Jacquline Sherman and Cheryl Jackson; sisters-in-law, Amanda Taylor and Neoma Taylor; special cousins, Margerett Horace and Dolly Green; special friends, Yvonne Davis and Cialice Gilder; god-son, Jonathan “Johnny” Wolf and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
