Dorothy D. Allen was born as Dorothy Delores Sapp to Oscar Sapp & Willie Odessa Sapp on July 30, 1940, in Crockett, Texas. She was affectionately known as “Dot.” Dorothy graduated from Ralph J. Bunche High School in Crockett, Texas where she was a forward on the basketball team, played the clarinet & sang in the choir.
Upon graduation Dorothy began her adventurous life, eventually settling in Houston, TX & working with prominent black-owned establishments in historic Third & Fifth Wards. Her biggest challenge was raising her three children Denise, Michael, & Brandi while working at Crown Central Petroleum in Pasadena, Texas. Her children were her pride & joy. Dot never met a stranger & could talk to anyone with ease. She loved to share her life experiences & tell such witty tales. Dorothy had the great gift of listening & helping others to solve their problems. Dorothy really enjoyed celebrating with family & friends, listening to all types of music, books on tapes, playing solitaire & dancing. She also loved all types of sports, & was an avid fan of football, basketball, & boxing. She was a social butterfly.
For the last 10 years, Dorothy Allen resided at Oakmont of Humble. However, being Dot, she did not slow down. Dorothy applied her charming personality as a Patient Greeter & Activities Committee member assisting with field trips & other activities available at Oakmont. Dorothy attended Way of Life Bible Fellowship of Humble where she received received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. On August 19, 2024, Dorothy D. Allen answered the call to come home to GOD.
Preceding her in death were her biological father Oscar Sapp, mother Willie Odessa (Trimm) Merritt, step-father James Merritt, brother Edward “Eddy” Sapp, grandson Michael E. Williams, Jr. & sister-in-law Maxine Sapp. Her memories will be forever cherished in the hearts her surviving family members. Children: Denise LagwaySlate, Michael Williams & Brandi Allen Roots. Nieces: Brenda (Sapp) Harris, Edwina “Winnie” (Sapp) Johnson, and Edwarda “Eddi” Sapp. Nephew, Patrick Sapp. Grandchildren: Wendy Jefferson, Mailik Williams, Prana Riley, Michael Breckenridge, Mya Breckenridge. Great grandchildren: Tashari Edmonds, Jeremiah Dixie Jr., Aje Riley, Musa Riley, and countless other family members & friends.
Dot will certainly be missed by family, friends and all who knew her.
