Delois Ann Nellums was born on September 13, 1952 in Madison County to Hattie Mae McAdams-Nellums and J.B. Nellums. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Sam Jones at Pool Chapel Baptist Church. As a youth, she attended Marian Anderson High School in Madisonville, Texas.
Delois was a custodial supervisor at Sam Houston Elementary School in the Huntsville Independent School District. After 30 years of service, she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, keeping her house and car clean, going to church, clothes shopping and cooking.
On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, Delois Ann Nellums Butcher departed this life. She was a loving mother, sister, friend and wife whose kindness, strength, and unwavering faith and love touched everyone she met. She never met a stranger and to know her was to love her.
Delois was preceded in death by her parents, two children (Donald Ray Garrett and Christy Gail Butcher), two sisters (Annette Booker who died at birth, and Stella Mae Booker-Hargis), two step-sisters (Billy Marie Jordan, Maxine McAdams) and one brother (Floyd Nellums).
Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Henry Butcher; three sisters: Annie Sue Booker, Ella Mae Garrett and Mary Ann Baker (Eurt); two brothers: Charles Booker, Sr. (Effie) and Willie Nellums (Doice); godson, Rufus D. Johnson; granddaughter that she raised, Zomoiya Butcher, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives whom she loved deeply.
