Della Vern Nelms

Her Story

Della Vern Wooten was born in January 11, 1937 in Buckeye, Arizona to the parentage of Matt Wooten and Edna Earl Cook Wooten. She attended Post Oak Elementary and Center Grove High School.

At an early age, Della accepted Christ and was baptized. She attended Mt. Oliver Baptist Church and later, Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church.

Della loved to cook and help people.  She enjoyed gospel music and family oriented gatherings.  She took great joy in gardening, tending to her plants and grilling on her barbecue pit.  She was a wonderful wife to Henry Nelms, Jr., domestic diva, and a marvelous mother to 11 children.

On December 2,2022, Della entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in transition by her husband, parents, daughter (Jacquelyn Nelms), one son (Earl Lester Nelms) three brothers (Norman B., Matt, Jr., and Hubert Wooten), sister (Delois McCullough) and two grandsons (LaShun and Antoine).

Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are her children, Vernetta Simon, Sherry Nelms (Willie), Charlie R. Nelms, Henry Nelms, III, Mattie Lane, Darren Nelms (Sonya), Yolanda Nelms (Corey), Farrah Nelms and Shericka Nelms (Chris); twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; six great great  grandchildren; two sisters, Celerea Simon and Alvertis Carr (Willie), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
