Deacon Herman Tryon Obituary

Herman Lernell Tryon, affectionately known by family and friends as “Noot”, was born on December 2, 1943 in Grapeland, Texas to Thomas and Kattie B. Tryon and grew up with a deep appreciation for his roots.  After graduating from W.R. Banks High School, he furthered his education by attending Prairie View A& M University.

Herman’s career took him to Dallas where he worked for Ryder and Roadway Trucking Lines.  before he returned home to serve the Grapeland Independent School District as both a school bus driver and custodian.  He eventually retired from Vulcraft, where he worked as a skilled diesel mechanic.   Even in retirement, he never truly stopped working; he was the “community handyman” and was known for his ability to rebuild cars and trucks.  Possessing a million dollar smile,  he had a willingness to help any neighbor in need that  followed him everywhere he went.

A man of steadfast faith, Herman served as a Deacon at Cedar Branch Baptist Church.  He found peace in the simple joys of life; mowing grass, farming peas, and watching basketball.  His presence was a constant, grounding force in the lives of those who knew him.

On May 14, 2026, Deacon Herman Lernell Tryon passed away at the age of 82.  A life-long    resident and pillar of the Grapeland, Texas community, his life was defined by hard work, faith, and a gifted pair of hands that could fix anything.

He was preceded in transition by two children (Belinda Tryon, Herman Tryon, Jr.); his parents, six brothers (William Tryon, Thomas Henry Tryon, French Albert Tryon, Sr., Cornell Tryon, Samuel Tryon, Odie Tryon);  and three sisters (Crezette Jones, Jessie Mae Rogers, Nellie Kate Bell).

Left to honor his life and cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Mary Eula Tryon; two  children: Kimberly Tryon Wilson and Mitchell Tryon; six grandchildren: Tish Tryon, Teddrick Burns, Trafus Tryon, Kristi Sneed, Aaliyah Tryon, Malachi Tryon; three sisters: Christine   Richardson, Arlillian Corprew, Vivian Tryon, and his extended family which includes a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
