DAVID ALLICOCK Obituary

David Nathaniel Allicock, named after his mother’s brother, entered this world on March 26, 1967 at Public Hospital in Georgetown, Guyana, as a special gift to his parents, Charles and Mary Elizabeth Allicock. Their already very large family now numbered thirteen. David’s mom shared with one of her daughters-in-law, the advice that someone gave his dad before David was conceived, “If you take a   photograph with all the children, you will not have any more.” The picture was taken but proved that the advice was a myth, as David arrived about a year after.

Little David, a Downs Syndrome child, briefly attended the School for the Disabled in Georgetown. His siblings remember him as a very busy and  mischievous child who sometimes got himself into many funny situations. On one occasion, David got hold of a container of Vaseline and slathered himself from head to foot with the grease. As you can  imagine, removing all the Vaseline was quite a task.

When the Allicock family began their migration to the USA in 1990, David was baby-sat by Mrs. Olga Small, a neighbor who lived a few doors away from the family home, 70 Campbellville Housing Scheme. In the evenings after the siblings returned from work, David was picked up. During the relocation, he    travelled with Aunt Elvira “Baby”Stephens, who happened to be vacationing in Guyana at the time.

David attended Alief Elsik High School in Houston, Texas, and graduated in 1988. After graduation, he worked at McDonald’s for a short period.

As a young child, David attended the Christian Mission Church in Guyana with the family, where he learned to love Jesus Christ. As he grew older, his relationship with Jesus strengthened and he took every opportunity to testify and tell of God’s goodness.

When he attended the King of Glory Holiness Church in Houston, the pastor and members loved to hear him testify and sing his favorite song, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, Oh Lord.” For the past several years, until his death, David faithfully attended the Apostolic Faith Church on Reed Road, Houston.

David knew how to enjoy his own company. He spent many happy hours on word puzzles, coloring, and was often seen laughing in enjoyment while watching old TV sitcoms.Somehow, David’s body clock was turned around; for he habitually stayed up all night in his room and went to sleep in the morning when the family was waking up. Another of David’s favorite activities was taking long showers. When he entered, no one knew when he would come out. Usually, it would be hours, unless he was instructed to get out.

After his mom suffered a stroke in 2009, David’s sister, Desiree, took him into her home and cared for him for the next thirteen years. In 2022, his care was taken over by another sister, Rena, in her home, until his death.

On the evening of July 19, 2025, David suffered a cerebral brain hemorrhage. He was hospitalized twice but his health declined and the doctor recommended that David be placed in Hospice care.

At the ripe old age of 58 years, David departed this earthly life on the evening of October 2, 2025, at Harbor Hospice, Houston, Texas. We thank God for giving this special child to our family. David loved everyone with a pure and deep love, and he was deeply loved in return.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Dennis Allicock and Donald Allicock) and one sister-in-law (Desiree Allicock).

Left to cherish his memory are his remaining ten siblings and their spouses: Albert Allicock, Margaret Brummell (Roy), Yvonne James (Trevor), Malcolm Allicock (Angela), Oswald Allicock (Pamela), John Allicock (Tiona), Desiree Vigilance, Juliet Jordan (Keith),Thomas, and Rena Garraway (Mark); sister-in-law, Carmen  Allicock and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and church brethren.
