Clifton Calhoun was born on January 22, 1956 in the Natchitoches Parish of Louisiana, the third of five children that Vernell and Ernie B. Jackson-Calhoun were blessed with.
Known as “Cal” or “Calhoun” by family and friends, Clifton was baptized at an early age at St. Mark Baptist Church in Louisiana under the leadership of Reverend Garfield A. Cox. He maintained his faith throughout his life.
Clifton’s educational endeavors were attained at Allen High School in the Natchitoches Parish School District. After high school graduation in 1974, Clifton relocated to Houston Texas where he gained employment at Finger Furniture Company delivering appliances. He was a dedicated employee for over 25 years. He later worked with Partner Home and Delivery Services and Allied Waste as a driver.
Clifton met and married Kathy Johnson. This union welcomed two sons: Clifton Calhoun, Jr. and Derrick Calhoun. Later in life, he met his life-time partner, Shirley Green. They were blessed with one daughter: Danielle.
In order to have friends, you must show yourself friendly. Calhoun was truly a friend of many friends. He loved people and people definitely loved him. He touched the lives of not only his family and friends, but he left an impact, in some way, on everyone he came in contact with. His favorite way to pass time was to hang out with his friends and jam his music. He was the life of the party and would make anyone laugh at any minute.
Clifton Calhoun became absent from the body yet present with the Lord on May 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his son (Clifton Calhoun, Jr.), parents, grandparents (Sammie and Louella Mack Calhoun, Neal and Lee Ethel Crayton Jackson), granddaughter (Brinley Calhoun) and sister (Charlotte Matthew).
Left with his memory are his daughter, Danielle Green (Major) and her mother, Shirley Green; son, Derrick Calhoun (Misty) and his mother, Kathy Calhoun; grandchildren, Madyson Brown, Major Calhoun Brown, Bayllie Calhoun; brothers, David Calhoun, Rev. Donald Brown (LaVanna); sisters, Patricia Joiner (Ellison), Debra Francis, Vicky Calhoun; nephews, Reggie Joiner, David Calhoun, II, Jonas “Troy” Frances, III, Jonathan “Tony” Francis and Ve’Ante Calhoun; nieces, Sha’Lon Calhoun, Ellisha Joiner-Whitaker, Pakasalyn Joiner, Demonica Calhoun, and a host of other relatives and friends, including the Green family.
Clifton Calhoun will definitely be missed.
