Cynthia Deniece Mumphrey was born on November 26, 1965 in Crockett, Texas to the parentage of John B. Whitting, Jr. and Myrtle Whitting.
Known as “Penny” by family and friends, Cynthia attended Crockett Elementary, Middle and High Schools and graduated with the class of 1984.
Cynthia was baptized at St. Andrews AME Church in Crockett. She enjoyed braiding hair, completing puzzles, reading books, watching television, dancing, and spending time with family and friends.
For many years, she worked for Crockett Inn and dedicated 21.5 years in the laundry department of Whitehall Nursing and Rehab.
On July 10, 2026, Cynthia departed this life. She was preceded in death by her father, grandmothers (Annie Whitting, Christella Mumphrey), and grandfather (Merlee Mumphrey).
Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Myrtle Whitting; five sisters: Sheila Whitting, Tarsha Whitting, Tracey Whitting Batts (Vincent), Carrie McQuirter, Shirley Whitting; two brothers: Frederick Whitting (Cassie), Reginald Whitting (Rochelle); special friends: Nora Murray, Jacklen Porch, Wanda McDaniel, Sarah Dickson, Betty Wiley, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
