Remembering Aunt B
Beatrice Marie Williams, the tenth of eleven children, was born on May 16, 1927, in Lovelady, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Pulliam Bailey. After graduating from Crockett High School, she attended Prairie View A&M University and later earned her nursing license from the Houston Independent School District’s nursing school.
Beatrice dedicated her life to caring for others by working as a nursing supervisor at Dever Nursing Home, a private duty nurse, and in various other healthcare settings. Known affectionately as “Aunt B,” she was cherished for her warm smile, kind words, and grateful heart. Her favorite phrases, “Thank You,” “Perfect,” and “I love you a bushel and a peck” reflected her positive spirit.
Sister Williams was a devoted member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Hoxie Perry, Rev. Michael L Jones, and Rev. Thomas McGruder. During her membership, she served diligently in the Nurse’s Aide Board Ministry, the General Mission, and the Mary Circle, where she held leadership positions with humility and grace.
Beatrice loved fishing with a bamboo pole and using grasshoppers as bait at the family pond in Lovelady, Texas, playing with her dogs, and frying fish on weekends for family. Her favorite trip was her journey to Jerusalem, the Holy Land, with her Mt. Moriah Baptist Church family. Nevertheless, she always had time to care for family and friends.
Beatrice married Herbert Williams. For 41 years, they maintained a loving home. After his passing, she spent her final 18 years with her niece, Rene Dickerson-Davis (Dr. Harold Davis) and family where she enjoyed traveling, and spending time with friends at the senior center she attended.
Beatrice Williams peacefully departed this life, leaving a legacy of love and service. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. Those left to cherish her memory are her compassionate and loving god-daughter, Cynthia Nemons and Cheryl Westbrook; devoted friends, Sis. Willie Gay and Sis. Doris O’Neal-Banks, who served for over 60 years and were past founding members of Mary Circle; her beloved favorite visiting nurses, Jose Garcia and Lynn; extraordinary caregiver over 10 years, Maria Higuera, that always recruited her family: sisters: Alma, Bertha, Elvira, daughter Cassandra and niece, Eilleen; nurses that cherished her wisdom; Yvonne Chapman, Jean Berringer, Brittany Warren, Cora Garza, Nora Plym, Dulce Sesma and Linda Butler, and Dr. Tracy Terrones (Yuma Cath Lab celebrate Juneteenth luncheon). Liz Grant always took time cooking 4 course meals while visiting, hairstylist and friend, Tanya Dixon who took her on dinner dates, John Horvath and son, gym trainers. She is survived by her first-generation adoring nieces: Carolyn Coffin, Paula Reed, Linda Duncan, Cynthia Nevels, Mildred Ann Goeyns and first-generation handsome nephews: Royce Bailey, Siegfried Dickerson, Sr, Cedric Dickerson, Robert Dickerson, Jr., and a host of nieces/nephews, relatives, and friends who will cherish her memory.
