Bessie Roberta Terry was born on July 7, 1951 in Crockett, Texas to the parentage of Hilliard and Minnie Owens Terry. She attended Center Grove Elementary, Middle and High Schools. After completing her formal studies, she furthered her education at Prairie View A&NM University and Masssey Business College.
Bessie was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Hill UMC by Reverend Ratcliff. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
For many years, Bessie was employed by Lovelady ISD as a bus driver and cook. She retired from the Youth Commission of Texas.
On June 8, 2025, Bessie entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter (Lutisha D. Terry), five sisters (Velma Bowser, Julia Tandy, Velasta Burns, Ardailure Mahon, Sarah Ellis), brothers (Frank Owens, Grady, Festus, Andrew, Hilliard, James).
Left to honor her life and cherish memory are two sons: Eric D. Terry and Major D. Harper-Terry; granddaughter, Kristin Terry Calavier (Howard, II); great-grandchild: Howard Joseph Calavier, III; two sisters: Lynda F. Terry of Lovelady, Cleo Champion of El Sobrante, California; brother, Deo Terry of Inglewood, California; special friend, Diane Cooper, and a host of other relatives and friends.
