Andrew Benjamin Portis, Jr. was born on August 22, 1954 in Calvert, Texas to the parentage of Andrew and Joanna Portis.
Although he insisted he was a resident of Calvert, he actually grew up in the Fifth Ward community of Houston, Texas and attended Wheatley High School. He later moved to the Hiram Clark area where he attended Madison High School in the Houston Independent School District. After graduation, he furthered his education at Howard Payne University.
After missing the 1978 Olympics, Kepp received a letter from his cousin letting him known his first child had been born. He immediately quit college, claimed his family, and found a job great driving soda trucks.
At an early age, Andrew accepted Christ and was baptized. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing dominoes, drinking a Bloody Mary and, of course, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Known as “Kepp” by family and friends, he was almost an exact replica of his parents. On March 2, 2026, Andrew, Jr. entered the realm of eternity. He was preceded in transition by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Demetria Portis and Andrew B. “Trae” Portis, III ; grandchildren: Terranysha Ferguson, Terranykia Ferguson, Michael Hartwell, Jr., Joseph Jones, Jr., Christopher Jones; great-grandchildren: Tristian and Christian Phillips, Christoher JoMichael Ferguson, Zion Reed-Hartwell, and Makaius Tolbert.
Kepp was a blessing and a favorite to all who knew him.
