Arzell Purvis, the third child of twelve, was born on March 19, 1931 in Crockett, Texas to the parentage of Carl John Purvis and Mildred Purvis.
As a child, she began her Christian walk in Lovelady, Texas. She joined Dixon Hopewell Baptist Church where she served for a number of years. Later, she united with St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. She continued her Christian journey and joined the membership of Progressive Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Harry F. Scott.
Arzell completed her formative studies at Williams High in the Porter Springs community of Crockett. She met and married Charles W. Robbins and they were blessed with nine children.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Arzell entered into eternal rest on August 13, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings (Flordean Steadham, Doris Mosley, Margie Nell Davis, Willie H. Purvis, Robert Earl Purvis, Troy Purvis, James Purvis, Freddie C. Purvis).
Left to honor her life and cherish her memory are four sons: Charles W. Robbins of Waco, Texas, Darnell Robbins of Crockett, Larry Robbins (Mildred) of Crockett, Freddie Lee Robbins of Houston; five daughters: Cecelia Gardner of Crockett, Ponsetta Robbins of Crockett, Carla Houston (Michael), Jennifer Robbins of Waco and Stephanie Robbins of Crockett; siblings: Jurline Lockhart of Crockett, Della Wheeler (Sam) and Maggie Mitchell of Houston; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
