DEACON ROBERT CHATMAN Obituary

Robert Mack Chatman was born on November 14, 1938 in Washington County, Texas to Reverend Major Chatman and Willie Emma Briscoe Chatman, the fourth of eight children.

Robert attended Washington County High School and enlisted in the United States Army after graduation.  After receiving an honorable discharge, he moved to Houston and began working for Tobin and Rooney Construction.  After 40 years of dedicated service, he retired.  Thereafter, he worked for Ned Holmes Investment where he remained for 20 years.  Though he retired from the public work force, he continued to work in and around the community.

Robert accepted Christ at an early age at Union Hill under the pastoral guidance of Reverend D.T. Hancock.

He met and married Emma Jean Prosper.  Their union was blessed with four children.  Together, they created a loving, Christian home for their family.

Robert joined Christian Hope Baptist Church under the auspices of the late Reverend Herbert Stroman.  As a faithful member, he served in several capacities and  auxiliaries including church treasurer, Brotherhood, Male Chorus, and Chairman of Deacons.  He later joined Trinity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Antoine Eakins.  Deacon Chatman rejoined Christian Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth W. Stroman.  He remained a member and was faithful in attendance until his health began to fail.

On February 24, 2024, Deacon Robert Mack Chatman entered the realm of eternity.  Those that went before him and await his arrival on the other side are his parents, daughter (Angela Chatman), three sisters (Marian Ewing, Martha Finister, Verline Chatman) and three brothers (Major Chatman, Jr., Joe Willie Chatman and Bobby Chatman).

Left to honor his life and cherish his memory are his wife, Emma Jean Prosper Chatman; two sons, Robert Chatman, Jr. (Rose), Daron Chatman (Tammy); daughter, Wanda Chatman; grandchildren, Christopher (Ashley), Cedric (Deja), Darian (Kieon), Tamia, Kennedy, Courtni (John), Rokeshia, and Jalcorban; great-grandchildren, Marley, Carmen Angela, Reginald, Jace, Johnathon, Anthony and Kamora; one sister, Mary Williams of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a host of other relatives, friends and church members who will truly miss him.
