Arthur Murphy Obituary

Arthur L. Murphy, Jr. was born on June 7, 1957 in Crockett, Texas to the proud parentage of Arthur L. and Georgia Murphy. Arthur was baptized into Christ at an early age and joined Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Crockett.  There, he served for many years and became the Superintendent of Sunday School and a devout deacon.  In 2022, Union Chapel merged with Wheeler Springs Baptist Church under the      leadership of Pastor Elliott Marshall where Deacon Murphy continued his faithful work of the Lord, as a head deacon.Arthur joined the United States Navy right after high school where he served for 6 years.  While in the Navy, he met and married Norma Jean Parker.  To this union, two beautiful daughters were born.  In 1980, he received an    honorable discharge and returned to Crockett with his family.Arthur began his employment with the Texas Youth Commission and remained dutiful for 30 years.  During that time, he attended Stephen F.  Austin State University and received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in counseling.  After retiring from the Texas Youth Commission, he worked for UTMB for 6 years and later retired. During those years of worth and transition, Arthur opened and operated  Murphy’s All Care where he helped and touched many lives with his counseling services.On January 26, 2023, Deacon Arthur L. Murphy, Jr. departed this life.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents (Sam and Jewel Wagner, McKinley and Emma Murphy), brother (Vernon Murphy), and sister (Emma Murphy).  Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 25 years, Barbara Murphy; two daughters, Samantha Harrison (Shawn) and Sherry Johnson (Alvin); mother, Georgia Murphy; grandchildren, Mye’Shaun Harrison, Khori Harris, Shamaun Harrison, Aven Johnson; god-daughter, Arionna Davis; nieces, Vernetrial Davis (Aaron), Branyiah Murphy, Braysiah Murphy; nephew, Aaron Davis, Jr.; aunt, Crezette Evans; uncle, Sammy Wagner, Sr. and a beautiful host of cousins, other family members and friends.
